Mosford, Barthel & Co., PLC. is a local accounting firm with offices located in Monticello and Elk River, MN.  The firm was founded in 1976 by Bob Mosford, CPA/PFS, and has continued to grow along with Monticello, Elk River, and the surrounding communities.

Leon Barthel, CPA

Text Box: Background Leon grew up on a dairy farm north of Albertville and attended Elk River High School.  His interest in accounting was sparked while helping his parents with their annual farm bookkeeping and tax return filings.  He graduated from Saint Cloud State University in June 1976 with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting.

Text Box: He lives near Monticello with his wife Mary Lee, a fulltime volunteer; and they have an "empty nest"!  Son Anthony is a business attorney with Skjold • Barthel, P.A. in Minneapolis and lives with his wife Andrea and their sons Brooks and Brady in Maple Grove.  Daughter Adrianne, her firefighter husband Dave Drebert, their sons Caiden and Brin as well as daughter Avery work and reside near Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.  Son Terrence is a Senior Business Analyst for Target Corporation in Minneapolis, he also resides in Minneapolis.  Daughter Breonna is a bilingual consumer loan representative for Hiway Federal Credit Union.  She lives in Plymouth with her husband Nolan Bachman who is an assistant dean with Teen Challenge. Leon joined the firm in 1979, and became a partner in 1982.  In addition to overseeing the day-to-day operations of the firm, Leon strives to keep himself and the firm up-to-date on the ever changing tax laws.  He works with many closely-held or family businesses out of the Elk River and Monticello offices. Leon enjoys clients who are receptive to new ideas as well as sincere about improving themselves and their company. Other Interests and Activities Leon is active in various community organizations including the Elk River Rotary and several Chamber of Commerce's.  He has served in many capacities as a member of the Riverside Alliance CMA Church. He also has enjoyed coaching several youth sports teams. Leon is an avid sports fan, especially baseball and football.  He also relaxes by hobby farming and reading.
