IRS increases standard mileage rate
Starting July 1, motorists who use their personal vehicles for business will be able to deduct 55 1/2 cents a mile from their taxable income. That's an increase of 4 1/2 cents from the first six months of the year. The mileage deduction for miles driven for medical and moving purposes is also being increased from 19 to 23.5 cents per mile from July 1, 2011 to December 31, 2011. The current deduction rate for miles driven for charitable purposes remains unchanged at 14 cents per mile.

Phony emails from IRS
Recently we have received numerous inquiries from clients about receiving emails from the IRS saying their payments have been rejected. The emails usually include the following, "Your Federal Tax Payment ID: has been rejected. Return Reason Code R21 - The identification number used in the Company Identification is not valid." Please note that this is a phishing scheme attempting to obtain your personal information. If you receive an email like this, we recommend that you delete the email immediately. Please keep in mind that the IRS does not communicate via email!
